These are packages of pre-measured coffee grounds that are enclosed in a sealed biodegradable paper coffee filter giving longer lasting freshness.  All the original aromas and flavours of the freshly ground coffee are enclosed until the pouch is opened and the pod is used.

These pods are patterned after a tea bag but vary in size, price and of course flavour.  With a coffee pod, you can brew one cup at a time, instead of a whole pot.  Most coffee pods are specifically designed so they have to be used with a specific brand of single serve coffeemakers, although there are a few full-size coffee pods that can be used with standard coffeemakers.

One of the reasons they were invented is because of convenience.  With the Single Cup Coffee pods, there are no more grounds to measure out a precise amount of coffee or search for a filter, no wiping up spilled grounds and no more chance of any loose dregs ending up in your morning brew.  All you have to do is drop the pod into your coffeemaker and your coffee is ready to be made.

The majority of the pod coffeemakers on the market today are configured especially for making a single cup of coffee, hence there is no unwanted excess.  This is really handy if you are brewing for one person who prefers caffeinated coffee and another person prefers a decaffeinated brew.  Coffee pods come in a variety of brews, flavours and brands and offer you a convenient way to make a single cup of specialty gourmet coffee or tea.

Single cup coffee pods have been on the market since 2001 and as the concept of single serve coffee became more popular, more companies began to take on the idea.  When coffee pods came onto the market first, there was no standard sized pods, so manufacturers produced pods in many various sizes.  These were manufactured usually to fit a specific brewer which was very confusing for the consumer.  Today most coffee pods are standard at approximately 61 millimeters.

Some pods may vary is the weight, or amount of coffee in each pod, the standard coffee pods contain between 7 – 14 grams of coffee, while tea pods contain less because less tea is required for a good cup.

There is no doubt that single serve coffeemakers bring home that wonderful gourmet coffee shop experience at a fraction of the price.  So if you can get your coffee fix at home, why should you hesitate to purchase a single serve brewer?

With a single serve coffeemaker, you will be able to brew that perfect cup of your favourite brew every morning without the hassle of filters or measuring the coffee grounds.  They are very easy to operate and one of the best features about the single serve coffeemaker is that they require almost no cleaning.

Single cup brewing is a totally different way of making coffee and along with this style of coffeemaker comes a few things to consider so that you can be happy with your purchase.

Whether you want one of the best single cup coffee systems for your home or place of employment, there are several aspects you should consider before you buy.  First of all, you should ask yourself, where can I place the machine?  Most kitchens can accommodate any size of coffeemaker, while some have limited space on the counter top and appliances have to be brought out or moved around when they are required to be used.

Even if these coffeemakers are compact and fit easily onto any counter worktop, to operate the unit properly, a single serve coffeemaker should be placed on a secure, stable counter top, preferably within easy access to water for refilling.  For safety sake, you will want an area where both the cup and the machine can be placed thus reducing the possibility of accidents happening.

Whatever size your kitchen and countertop is, you should be able to find a coffeemaker that will do it all without taking up too much space.  So, before you purchase a single serve coffeemaker, read on and get to know what types are available so you can find the right one for you.
